About Our Workshops
Film provides a unique and compelling means to give expression to our personal experiences and share ideas of importance. – High quality video cameras and powerful computer editors are now both affordable and easily accessible. Through small class sizes, low student-to-teacher ratios, and a hands-on learning approach FilmTreks stands apart from other workshops – effectively conveying the skills and concepts necessary to enable you to produce compelling visual stories.
We've sought to create the best learning environment and workshops possible. All of our workshops include:
- Small class sizes (8 to 12 students)
- Very low teacher-to-student ratios (approximately 1:5)
- Immediate immersion into the use of equipment and actual filmmaking
- Individually produced projects (working in small teams of two)
- A focus upon universally applicable concepts, techniques, and methodologies rather than just a narrow, specific tool set
- An active and cyclical learning process that encourages discovery and genuine learning through 1) doing, 2) reviewing & learning, and 3) doing more
- Gaining the knowledge and ability to pursue your personal filmmaking projects
- And a lot of good spirit and humor.
Further, our Comprehensive Documentary Filmmaking workshops also include:
- Participants completing an actual short film from beginning to end
- Learning the gamut of documentary production from conception and direction to story structure, interview technique, videography, sound recording, and digital editing.
